Credit card debt settlement?

My husband has a credit card debt with capital one from before we were married, after he had cancer he let it go with out my knowing, I know now and have taken over the bills, and now we owe 1500. My question do you think they will settle for less, what should I offer and how do I approach this. Thanks.

Please no rude answers, I know he should be the whole thing back but we are up to our eyeballs, 10,000+ in medical debt.

Yes they will settle for about 65% if you can make it in 3 payments not more than 6.

If it is still with Cap 1 you can call the collections dept and make the offer and ask that they send out a letter acknowledging the agreement. THEN you will send them a money order for the payments. NEVER by personal check, NEVER allowing them to take it from your checking account.

IF it is with a collection agency who has bought the debt offer 50% in writing only and stay off the phone with a collection agency. Same thing NO personal check, no bank account debits.
