I recently recieved enough money to pay off all my credit card debt?

I want to pay off and close all my credit cards, will this help my credit at all?
It is pretty bad right now.
Everyone keeps saying to leave one open, however, I don’t have a card that has a reasonable interest rate due to some bad decisions when I was younger. I really just want to close them all, why is this not a good idea?

And then I was out of the country for almost 3 yrs. Now I need to go back for a friend’s wedding and visit some friends, I am not sure if my credit card debt will have any impact on my visa application, will I still get one? If I go back to the country, will it be a law suit or anything waiting for me that will affect me? Will I got caught? Will it be helpful if I go back and arrange payments? Thanks for help.

Us responsible people I guess are being punished and now the govt wants us to help pay off irresponsible peoples credit card debt. This is like giving candy to your kid who just punched the neighbor kid in the face! HELLO GOVT! I don’t want to pay for my neighbors BOAT they charged! When I was the responsible one who knew I could not AFFORD a boat for myself! Is our govt INSANE?

My husband has a credit card debt with capital one from before we were married, after he had cancer he let it go with out my knowing, I know now and have taken over the bills, and now we owe 1500. My question do you think they will settle for less, what should I offer and how do I approach this. Thanks.
Please no rude answers, I know he should be the whole thing back but we are up to our eyeballs, 10,000+ in medical debt.

Can you negotiate settlement on credit card debt?

I have credit card debt that I have the money to pay off. However, I heard that credit card companies will negotiate a lower amount, say ,000 instead of ,000 in order to get the cards paid in full.
1. Is this true?
2. Does this look bad on your credit report? Or does it even appear?
3. How does this work and how do you go about negotiating with them?

Is credit card debt settlement bad for your credit?

I am a senior in college, I have no job now as I am finishing school. I start work in June, and I actually have good credit, over 700, and 5k in credit card debt. I’ve paid my bill in full always in the past until my last killer spring break. Debt settlement sounds cool to cut the debt in half which I would pay off with a lump sum, or should I just stomach it for another month where I can pay it all off entirely in full. Thanks.

I am in Ohio and do not want to file chapter 13. Looking to make settlement to credit cards. I am looking for reputation companies that do credit card settlement. What do these companies charge. 50,000 in credit card debt at 23% apr.
Do not want to go to consumer counseling, we can get a loan from family for 25,000 to pay off total. Can not afford to pay anymore. We need to help our son who has some medical issues.
